   Usui Reiki

This is a therapy that uses the universal healing energy called Reiki.  As a Usui Reiki Practitioner I have received attunements from a Reiki Master that help me become a clear channel for this energy. As I place my hands near or on your body the Reiki flows through me and into you to aid your own personal power to heal, it amplifies your innate ablities, balances the spirit and helps you find peace and happiness , and maybe the answers to your questions too.  I don't need to know anything about your condition or what you need as the Reiki will always flow to where it is needed.

Where did Reiki begin?

The history of Usui Reiki began in Japan when a man named Mikaomi Usui was born in  1864 to a family of Tendai Budhists.  This man during his life practiced Tendai Budhism and studied Japanese martial arts.  He is also known to have studied history, medicine and spiritual practices from other cultures including Christianity.  Usui pursued his spiritual truth with vigour and it was during one of his retreats on a mountain top, Mount Kurama, where he fasted and meditated for 21 days that he received a significant spiritual experience, or some would call a divine inspiration, that was to lead to the begining of a healing discipline that was to change his life and those that followed him. Mikao Usui

Usui began imparting his experiences to others in the early 1900s.  Hands on healing was widely used and popular at this time in Japan and he refined his teachings into a system that closely resembles what we now know as Usui Reiki.

Mikao Usui died in 1926 and by the time of his death it is thought that he trained around 2,000 students including 21 who achieved the Master Teacher level.  All Usui Reiki Practitioners can list their lineage back to Mikao Usui.

Reiki and our Energy System

The human body has seven major Chakras which are vital energy centres and run vertically through the body, from the top of the head to the perineum ( the region between the sexual organs and the anus).

These vortices govern our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being and from a neuro physiological point of view they are represented by nerve plexuses from the spinal column and endocrine glands that connect with and contribute to the efficacy of our internal organs.

Running between these major chakras and the hundreds of smaller chakras is a system of channels or vessels, rather like  our physical veins and arteries, that are called nadis and meridians.  It is within these  that we can accumulate negativity and energy blocks.  Reiki can help to unblock these channels and allow energy to flow once more. Our existence relies completely on our life force or energy being clear to flow throughout our whole system in order that we maintain homoeostasis (dynamic balance) in our physical body.

What conditions can benefit from Reiki?

As with other therapies it is impossible to have a definitive list of conditions, ailments and diseases that Reiki will help.  Reiki helps to balance the chakras and body systems and can induce deep relaxation during the session which allows the body to be best prepared to help itself back to health.

Reiki has an ability to answer your internal questions and as you are receiving the treatment answers to problems that have been concerning you may pop into your head.  This is because Reiki reaches us on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level and will always go where it is needed most.  The question of where that is may not be one that you will necessarily know.  You may come with a really painful case of arthritis and go away with a solution to a problem that has caused you to feel stressed and made your condition worse.

As a Reiki Practitioner I can never claim to cure or make your condition better but I do know that it has helped many people in ways that were not always obvious straight away as well as many who have left the therapy room feeling much better and in less pain.

Whatever is troubling you do consider having Reiki, and do contact me if you would prefer to talk to me about your choices.

What can I expect in a Reiki session?

The Reiki  session is carried out with you sitting or lying and you remain fully clothed just removing your shoes if you choose to lie down on the couch.  I will then do a body scan with my hands just above your body to see if I can sense any areas that need more help than others.  I will talk to you about these at the time or at the end of the session.  Strictly speaking I do not need to do this as I completely trust that the Reiki healing energy will go where it is needed but sometimes the client is reassured by the fact that I may be able to sense where their body is hurting or has had injuries or that their problem is emotional or their mind is too busy to see clearly.

Starting with your head and going down to your feet on the front of your body, I place my hands in a series of positions closely related to your chakras.  My hands can be touching your body, which some find comforting but you can choose for me not to touch you in which case my hands will be a few centimetres above you. If you are able to you can turn over and the same will happen from head to toe on your back.

Most clients feel a sense of deep relaxation during and after the session.  Some may feel tingling or the sense of energy moving around their body.  Some clients see colours or light behind their closed eyes.  There are many reactions and experiences on receiving Reiki but starting with an open mind will usely ensure you receive what you need in the moment.

I will offer you a glass of water at the end of the session, as with all therapies it is advisable to drink plenty of water to help the healing processes that have been encouraged by the treatment.

Ann's additional thoughts on Reiki

There is a huge amount of information, some contradictory, about Reiki on the Internet today but I invite you to think and indeed feel Usui Reiki as a Spiritual Discipline that, with the help of attunements, allows the Practitioner to be a clear channel for Universal Healing Energy.  I could liken it to the energy you could impart to your car's depleted battery with a set of jump leads from another source of abundant energy.  If the jump leads are frayed and the connectors are dirty then the amount of energy that can supply the dead battery is limited.  If the jump leads etc. are clean and in good order then the power will surge through and the battery will be replenished with ease.  A practitioner has chosen to become a clear channel for healing energy to enable the best healing potential for their client.

Reiki is not attached to any religion and is not a religion in its own right but is based in spirituality.  There is no need for you to be of a spiritual mind or to believe that it can help in order to receive Reiki.  We all can help others by placing our hands on them at times of distress; in fact we tend to do it so unconsciously that it is part of our everyday life.  Who hasn't reached out to help someone with their hand be it a child who has scraped a knee or an elderly person who can't manage their shopping bags or just to give someone a hug?

Help with our personal healing can come from many sources; the comedian who makes us laugh, the opera singer who makes our heart or soul sing; music; theatre productions or books that inspire us; medical staff; the list is endless as you can imagine because it is the intention to make us feel better that is behind all healing gifts. Becoming a Reiki Practitioner for me was deciding to specialise in this particular method of facilitating others in their healing.
